...inspire their best! e-news#30: Words Have Impact

People hear your words but feel your attitude

On one of my yearly silent retreats, our spiritual director, Father Bob Poole, gave us a new word: BULUCU. An anagram that means:

  • Build Up
  • Lift Up
  • Cheer Up.

Another word anagram we share in all our workshops is B.E.S.T.:

  1. *B*elieve in your child
  2. *E*ncourage who they are – Nurture their Nature
  3. *S*upport, Strengthen & Strive to bring out their best!
  4. *T*each, Train, & Take Action

One of my resolutions this year is to really try to capture my thoughts and words; use words that build a child’s strengths, lift up their sense of self and cheer them on when they almost get it right…

As the New Year begins, perhaps we can continue to reflect on how well we are doing in BULUCU and B.E.S.T department with family, children in our care, friends, colleagues and even our best furry friends… For sure some days will be pretty good and other days, room for improvement! Remember, we don’t make mistakes, we make learnings…

Here are a few more WORDS with IMPACT to keep 2014 bright with possibilities!

“I think the greatest thing in the world is to believe in people.” — John Galsworthy
Your action for today is to tell a child, family/team member and/or friend that you believe in them.

The most effective kind of education is that a child should play amongst lovely things. — Plato

Education is not the filling of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire. — W. B. Yeats

It takes a deep commitment to change and an even deeper commitment to grow.” — Ralph Ellison
